Marian Wagner

March 28, 1937 — June 15, 2013

Marian Hilda Hertwig was born in Leaf Valley Township on March 28, 1937, the daughter of Max Hertwig and Elda (Dreger) Hertwig. She weighed three pounds at birth and was kept in her dad's shoebox in the warming oven of the family wood stove. Marian grew up on the family farm near Miltona and attended school through the eighth grade at the area country school. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul?s Lutheran church in West Miltona. Marian married Joseph Wagner, Jr. on October 6, 1953 in Millerville. The couple was going to celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary this fall. Marian and Joe, with their three sons, farmed near Brandon. Marian had a passion for many hobbies, most of which were self-taught. She created countless treasures that will forever be cherished by her loved ones. Marian painted beautiful ceramics, crocheted blankets and doilies, made afghans, sewed, and enjoyed woodworking. Marian put her heart in to her cooking and baking. Words cannot explain how delicious her meals and desserts were; no one ever left her house hungry. She loved being outside in her flower garden, vegetable garden, and strawberry patch. She was especially excited for her bumper crop of strawberries this year. Marian enjoyed fishing and was proud to retell the story of reeling in her 17-pound Northern. She loved playing cards, shaking dice, and reading. Marian?s dogs gave her a great deal of companionship; she always had a four-legged friend at her side. All of these hobbies took a backseat to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, with whom she made memories that will never be forgotten. Marian brought smiles to many faces with her witty sense of humor. She put her heart and soul in to all she did, which in turn brought happiness and love to those around her. Marian died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by love and family on June 15,2013. She is survived by her husband Joe; children, Wayne Wagner and wife Alice (Lund) of Millerville, Ron Wagner and friend, Michelle of Elk River, and Mike Wagner of Brandon; grandchildren, Joseph Wagner and wife, Hope, Brian Wagner and wife, Jennifer, Angie Wagner Scott and husband, Brady, Eric Wagner and friend, Kayla Norenberg, and Brittany Wagner; great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Marcus, Roman, Lane, Annie, and Rocco; sister-in-law, Madeline Hertwig; brother, Orville Hertwig and wife, Bernice; sister, Vergene (Hertwig} Lippka and husband Jerry; and aunt, Hilda Olson.
