Marie Bettermann 92 Marie Anna Bettermann died Saturday June 14, 2014 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria with her family by her side. Marie was born January 1, 1922 in Effington Township to Herman and Hedwig (Wilke) Ruckheim. She was baptized and confirmed at St James Lutheran church. She attended School District #74. Following her education, she worked in the Twin Cities. Marie married Alfred Bettermann on December 31, 1941. They farmed for a short time. Then they bought their home by Lake Miltona before Alfred left for the Army in WWII. They enjoyed living by the lake. In October 1981 Alfred died and Marie continued to live there until 2006 when she moved to Clearwater assisted living and later moved to Knute Nelson. Marie was a member of St Paul?s Lutheran Church. She was very active with the Ladies Aid and LWML, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and other church activities. Marie enjoyed her work as a nurses aid at Douglas County Hospital from 1972-1987. Spending time with her family was very important. She enjoyed cooking and baking. The family favorites were carmel rolls, homemade bread and doughnuts. She also enjoyed her vegetable garden and growing flowers to make her beautiful bouquets. She is survived by her daughters Yvonne (Doug) Hermanson of Alexandria and Phyllis (Floyd) Brannan of Andover her son Vincent (Charlene) Bettermann of Miltona, seven grandchildren, eleven great- grandchildren, sister Delphine Freudenberg, sisters-in-law Elda Ruckheim and Verla Ruckheim. She was preceeded in death by her parents, husband Alfred, son Palmer, five brothers, Gordon, Waldemar. Eldor, Albert, and Arthur Ruckheim, and sister Cora Diedrich. A funeral service was held on Wednesday June 18, 2014 at St Paul?s Lutheran Church with Rev. Robert Petersen officiating. Katie Jahnke was organist and Amy Barbery soloist. Interment was at the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Michael Hermanson, Andrew Bettermann, Charlie Bettermann, Alan Bettermann, Ralph Freudenberg and William Gerhart. Honorary casket bearers were William Bettermann, Amy Barbery, Catherine Gerhart, Stacy Brannan, and Karri Hermanson. Arrangements were with Anderson Funeral in Alexandria; www.andersonfuneral.net
