Marie Elizabeth Bock passed away March 13, 2011 at Knute Nelson Home in Alexandria. Marie was born March 31, 1923 to Hans and Minda (Balke) Sordahl in Willmar, MN. Marie attended school in Willmar and Pennock, MN. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Pennock. Marie married Robert Nelson in May of 1954 in Beresford, SD. Robert died in July 1965. Marie later married Russell Bock of Osakis, MN on September 7, 1968. The couple made their home in Alexandria. Marie worked for a time at Van?s Caf� and later worked at Washington Elementary School as a cook. She loved working with and being around the school children. She displayed the photos of many of these children on her refrigerator at home. Marie worked for the school district for many years finally retiring at age seventy. Marie enjoyed going out with Russ for dinner and dancing; often they attended the Corral in Nelson, MN on Saturday nights. Marie enjoyed cooking, baking and being with her friends and her family. All will miss her. Marie is survived by her husband, Russell Bock of Alexandria; two sons, Darrell Nelson of Alexandria and Harry Jansen of Benson, MN; one daughter, Karen Haensel and husband, Dave, of Mackinaw, IL; two grandchildren, Nicole Haensel of Mackinaw and Michael Haensel of Winston-Salem, NC. Marie is also survived by one sister, Alice Matejka and husband, Vern, of Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; one infant son; four brothers, Art, Edmund, Maynard and Gordon Sordahl; and one sister, Eunice Gunderson. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 19, 2011 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend Marilee Bergerson will officiate. Karen Gladen and Virginia Hegre will provide music. Interment will follow in the Kinkead Cemetery. Pallbearers include Vern Matejka, Don Ahlstedt, John Sordahl, William Sordahl, David Haensel and Michael Haensel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
