Marie Violet Rosenow, age 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8, 2013, at her home in the Grand Arbor assisted living facility in Alexandria. Funeral services were held on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria, with the Reverend Eric VanScharrel officiating. Organist was Lila Rosenow, and Joyce Rosenow was the soloist. Burial was at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie. Marie was born on December 20, 1922, to Anton and Albina (?Kate? Kastonek) Etzler in Fawn Lake Township, Todd County. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. During the early 1940s, she worked for Janney, Semple, Hill in Minneapolis. On June 2, 1946, Marie married the love of her life, Elmer ?Swede? Rosenow. Together, they worked on his family dairy farm in Round Prairie Township, Todd County, until they retired in 1994 and moved to Alexandria. She was an active member of both Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, and later at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Marie loved to garden, creating beautiful flower and vegetable beds wherever she lived. She especially enjoyed drying flowers and making flower arrangements. She was a founding member of the Snappy Dragons Garden Club in Long Prairie. Marie was also an artist, who loved drawing and oil painting. She was a wonderful cook, an expert seamstress, and an accomplished quilter. Marie loved her family, friends, animals, and wild birds. She will be missed by everyone. Marie is survived by her children: Janice (Timothy) King, Clotho, Steven (Char) Rosenow, Nelson; sister Donna Friedrichs, Isle; three grandchildren, Colin King (Christina Esposito), Long Prairie, Danielle (Corey) Lien, Glenwood, and David (Antonia) Rosenow, Nelson; and one great-granddaughter, Kamryn Rosenow. Maire was preceded in death by her parents, husband ?Swede? on February 15, 2008, sisters Adeline and Caroline, and brothers Vernon, Adolf ?Bud?, Harvey, and Ray. Pallbearers were David Rosenow, Colin King, Corey Lien, Jim Chlian, Darrell Connell, and George Moon. Honorary pallbearers were Orval Rosenow and Ron Wienhold. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria.
