Marjorie Mae Nordmeyer was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on August 15, 1924. She was raised in Minneapolis where she graduated from Central High School in 1942. Thereafter, she attended and graduated from a Minneapolis business school. She worked at Minneapolis Honeywell for approximately a year until she entered into and served in the military in the Navy branch as a member of the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service).
It was there that she met her future husband, Douglas Nordmeyer, at the Minneapolis Naval Air Station in South Minneapolis. The couple married on June 19, 1949 and made their home in South Minneapolis where Marjorie was a homemaker while Douglas became a Minneapolis police officer. They had three children. Jeffrey, Jill and Jan. After Douglas retired from the police department, they bought a home on Lobster Lake near Alexandria, Minnesota, as they always enjoyed lake life after having rented a cabin for many summers on Prior Lake.
Marjorie, along with Douglas, were very active people. Marjorie especially loved fishing from the dock, bowling, downhill, cross-country as well as water skiing, and bicycling. She also enjoyed sewing, watching the birds, watching the Vikings on TV, and collecting recipes. Most importantly, she was a loving, wonderful mother to her children, always vigilant to their cares and concerns.
Marjorie passed away at the Douglas County Hospital on December 3, 2015, just seven months after Douglas passed on. She is also predeceased by her parents Mabel Larson and Howard Larson, her brother Robert Larson, and most sadly, her son Jeffrey. She is survived by her brother William Larson and sister Marion Laurvick, her daughters Jill Rieger (John) and Jan Nordmeyer (Bruce), and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015, 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home. Burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
