They had four girls and two boys; Marly was the sixth child. His formal education began in Alexandria in a one room school house and continued on to graduating from Jefferson High School in 1969. He then went to Bemidji State University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree with a double major in Elementary Education and Physical Education. In his last year of college he met Carolyn Lee in Alexandria and one year later they were married on June 9, 1973 in Alexandria. To this union they had three sons: Cory 1977, Tyler 1981 and Lee 1985.
