Marshall Dainsberg

Marshall Strand Dainsberg was born on December 3, 1919, in Delano, Minnesota the son of Ole and Minnie Dainsberg. In 1933, Ole got sick and later died in 1936. In 1933, Marshall left school during his freshman year of high school to help his mother provide for the family. From 1936-1943 he owned and operated Curley?s Men?s Clothing Store in Delano. In 1943, Marshall left to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II Overseas in G-2 Section Army Intelligence 9th Army Headquarters and later served with the 2nd Army Headquarters. After returning from the war he went to work for Daytons in the mens clothing department. On November 22, 1947, Marshall was united in marriage to Mardell Larson at the Bethlehem Covenant Church in Minneapolis. After their marriage the couple moved to Delano where Marshall owned and operated the Men?s Clothing Store. He also worked for the National Engraving Co. and Mid American Investment. In 1956, the Dainsbergs moved to Benson where they owned and operated Mardain?s Men?s Store. Marshall enjoyed playing baseball. At the age of 18, he was considered to be a promising baseball player. He played first base for Minneapolis in the American Association League. He continued to play while he was in the army at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland where he remembered playing against the Baltimore Orioles. As he got older he enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and attending the Alexandria Beetles games. He valued the friendships he made through his association with sports. He always found time to play ball with his family in the back yard. During his lifetime Marshall was very active in different organizations and served as Chairman of the West Central Men?s Christian Fellowship, Chairman of the First Evangelical Free Church in Benson for 14 years, where he served as an Elder and Sunday School Superintendent. He taught Sunday School for 55 years. Marshall had a genuine love for his Lord and a real passion for missions. He served as Parents Committee Chairman and on the Development Committee of the St. Paul Bible College, Chairman of the Board of the North Central District Assoc. and Executive Committee Chairman of the Finance Committee of the North Central District of the Evangelical Free Church of America, served seven years as President of the State of Minnesota largest chapter of the Mental Health Association and in 1975 was awarded ?Mental Health -Volunteer of the Year?. Marshall was on the Advisory Board of the Willmar State Hospital and served on the Stewardship Dept. of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School of Deerfield, IL. Mr. Dainsberg died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. He is survived by four children: Dean of Alexandria, Dan & wife, Maryanne of Green Bay, WI, Don & wife, Terri of Eden Prairie, Diane Patterson & husband, Lloyd of Cape Coral, FL; eight grandchildren and one brother, Jack Dainsberg of Eden Prairie, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mardell; three sisters and two brothers. Funeral service was held on Monday, March 23, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church in Benson with Rev. Reed Egerstrom. Pallbearers were Dean Dainsberg, Dan Dainsberg, Don Dainsberg, John Dainsberg, Chuck Erickson and Wayne Lee. Jack Dainsberg and George Stumpf served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
