Marshall Erwin Kalpin, age 62, of Alexandria, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Bethany Home with family and friends by his side.
Marshall was born January 14, 1954 to Orrel (Olson) and Erwin Kalpin in Parkers Prairie, MN. Marshall was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie. Following his graduation from high school Marshall lived in Fort Meyers, FL Colorado Springs, CO, Sioux City, IA and Marshall, MN before moving to Alexandria.
Marshall worked as a computer programmer and computer technician for Gateway, Schwann's Foods and Alexandria Technical College. He has been working in sales for over fifteen years at Plaza Liquor in Alexandria.
Marshall loved the game of golf and was an avid golfer. He made many trips to play golf with his best friends around Minnesota and other states. Marshall was a good friend to many people. He enjoyed helping mow his neighbor's lawns in the summer and clearing snow in the winter. His labors were much appreciated. Deer hunting in the fall was one of Marshall's favorite activities.
Marshall is survived by two brothers, Virgil "Buddy" Kalpin of Monticello, MN and Dennis Kalpin and wife, Ruth, of Alexandria; one sister, Kathy Franson and husband, Vinal, of Alexandria; three nephews, Dan Kalpin of Zimmerman, MN, Lanny Kalpin of North Carolina and K.C. Franson of Alexandria; Five nieces, Laurie Erlandson of Wayzata, MN, Nancy Wolf of Rochester, MN, Sue Empting of Alexandria, Katie Olberg of Hutchinson, MN and Jodi Loecke of Windsor, CO; many grandnieces and nephews, cousins and relatives; and his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Eunice Kalpin; and golf partner and best friend, Dennis Thoennes.
Marshall took comfort and strength in his faith in Jesus Christ during his struggle with cancer. Marshall's faith became an inspiration to many.
A Memorial service will be held at 2 PM Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Anderson Funeral Home. Reverend Father Herb Gappa will officiate. Honorary pallbearers include Marshall's friends in faith through Alcoholics Anonymous.
