Martha Gerthe

Martha Theresa Gerthe passed away February 5th, 2018, at age 95 at the Grand Arbor assisted living facility in Alexandria, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, the late Pastor Wolfgang Gerthe. She is survived by her daughter Susan Butler and husband Gene, and son John Gerthe and wife Elsie.

Martha was born February 7, 1923, in Goppingen, Germany to Karl and Krescentia Marschall. The family migrated to America, settling in Rochester, NY, where she met her future husband Wolfgang. They were married October 24th, 1943. Martha faithfully supported the ministry of her husband, providing music, teaching Sunday school, and typing up bulletins and other printed materials for churches in Germantown, ND, Hutchinson, MN, Buffalo Center, IA, McClusky, ND, Glenwood, MN, and Lakewood, NY.

They had five children, Paul, Susan, Ruth, Mary, and John, and 8 grandchildren: Paula, Jonathan, Heidi, Melissa, Samantha, Adam, Holly, and Nathaniel.

A short graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, with funeral arrangements handled by Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
