Martin Frank Tonn was born May 13, 1933 on the family farm to Frank Gustav Tonn and Marie Johanna Gruendemann Tonn. He attended District 69 school near Carlos, MN, through 8th grade, then Central Highschool in Alexadria. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Martin was sent to Germany as part of the Army of Occupation during the Korean War period. While he was there, he was able to find the area the Tonn family originated.
Returning home, he married his sweetheart, Willa Titus in September 1955. Together they raised 4 children. Martin worked for the US Postal Service in Minneapolis until 3M opened an abrasives division plant in 1967. Martin was part of the first crew hired and worked there for 30 years, returning about 1997.
Martin believed in a loving God and looked forward to the day of meeting Him face-to-face. He passed away on August 15, 2021, at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 2 days. He is survived by his 4 children, Michelle (Gerry) Skindelien, Elaine (Curtis) Svenning, Jennifer (Scott) Sternhagen, Martin (Lori) Tonn; 15 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. He marveled at the family he and Willa started by saying “What have I sired unto myself?!”
