Marvin Alexander King was born on March 18, 1922, the son of Marvin J. and Lauretta (Kennedy) King near the town of Berner, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Berner, MN and attended public school in Berner, MN. After graduating from the eighth grade Marvin took over his parents farm. He married Wanda Roberts on June 18, 1948 at his farm near Gonvick, MN. He farmed until 1967 and then moved to Garfield, MN. He also worked for Great Northern Railroad from 1955 to 1988 when he retired. Marvin?s hobby was gardening. He was always very proud of his vegetable and flower gardens he tended to every year. He also liked to play, record and listen to music, especially country and bluegrass music. Marvin loved animals and had many cats and dogs he took care of over the years. He was a loving husband and father who loved all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Marvin A. King died on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at his son?s home near Glenwood, MN at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his son, Marvin ?Smurf? King and friend, Angie Terhaar, both of Glenwood, MN; daughter, Rosalie and Ray Hanson of Brandon, MN; grandchildren, Michael and Karie Hanson of Brandon, MN; Bryan and Kim Hanson of Evansville, MN; and great grandchildren, Haley and Hayden Hanson of Brandon, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda King; and sisters, Della Bratvold and Laura Halliday. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Donald Clifford officiating. Cassie Weisner was the soloist and Smurf King played the guitar. Interment was in the East Moe Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mike Hanson, Bryan Hanson, Brandon Terhaar, Bob Halliday, Darrell Johnson and Harry Bell. Honorary casket bearers were Lester Johnson, Stan Kidder and Larry Simpson. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
