Mary Kathleen “Kathy” Winter was born August 15, 1950 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Tom and Marjorie (O’Rourke) Winter. She grew up in Richfield where she graduated from high school.
Over the years Kathy worked for the Douglas County Sherriff’s Department in Alexandria, MN, the Burleigh County District Attorney’s office in Bismarck, ND and the Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria.
Kathy enjoyed her many friends and spent as much time as she could with her grandchildren. Kathy loved spending time with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Each grandchild held a special spot in her heart; each carried unique qualities that she enjoyed sharing with them. As any grandparent would agree, she never felt she saw enough of them.
Kathy always had an aspirin or tweezers or pocket full of candy when anyone needed them. Kathy was known as Mamma Kathy to many; she was pleased to be everyone’s grandma, mother or friend.
On Thursday, September 28, 2017 Kathy died at the age of sixty-seven years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Thomas Winter, Jr. Kathy is survived by her son, Jeffrey Nelson and wife, Jennifer Stramer-Nelson, of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Emma and Aiden Nelson and Thomas, Lauren and Brandon Ruffcorn; sister-in-law, Dianne Winter of Lubbock, TX; niece, Christine Winter of Flushing, MN; nephews, Thomas Winter, III of Argyle, TX, Matthew Winter of Fort Worth, TX, James Winter of Lubbock, TX; and her dear friend, Karen Stramer of Elk River, MN.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Monday, October 2, 2017 at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. Reverend Justin Fenger will officiate. Interment in Bismarck, ND will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Monday at the church.
Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN.
