(Mary) Evelyn Gunderson Lee, age 96, was born October 29, 1919, in her family’s farm home in Solem Township near Kensington, MN. Her parents were Theodore and Selma (Staffanson) Gunderson. She was baptized and confirmed in Solem Lutheran Church.
Evelyn attended school district 71 in Solem Township through 8th grade. Then, she moved to Hoffman where she completed 4 years of high school. After graduation, she attended beautician school in Minneapolis and then returned to Alexandria and worked 5 years at Marple Beauty Shop.
On July 10th, 1943, Evelyn was united in marriage to Merrill Lee. They shared over 47 years of marriage and were blessed with 3 children.
From 1946 to 1950, Merrill and Evelyn made their home in Terry and Malta, Montana. In 1951, they returned to Alexandria. Except for 7 years in Sauk Centre and 4 years in Thief River Falls, they would remain in Alexandria. While in Alexandria, Evelyn would work at Yeutter’s Bakery and Bethany Home.
Among the many things Evelyn enjoyed were spending time with family, traveling, playing cards, fishing, gardening, reading and attending Bible study with friends. Her favorite passage was Philippians 4:4-7. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church.
Evelyn went to be with the Lord on April, 20, 2016. She is survived by her children, Judy (Richard) Baysinger of Benson; Lois (Marvin) Bentfield of Maple Plain; and Wayne (Joan) of Detroit Lakes. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill, her 4 sisters. Mable, Luella, Esther and Lillian, and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016, 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and visitation also one hour prior to the service at Mount Carmel on Monday. Funeral Monday, April 25, 2016, 10:30 AM at Mount Carmel. Burial will be at Solem Lutheran Cemetery in Kensington. Memorials are preferred to Mount Carmel Ministries, Solem Cemetery, or First Lutheran Church. A special thank you to all our family and friends for your support and help with our mom.
