Mary Veronica Maudal, second eldest daughter of Nicholas and Kathryn (Pletschett) Zimmer, died at the age of 95 in her home surrounded by her family. Mary was born, baptized, confirmed, and attended school in Belgrade, MN. She graduated from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN, in 1941 and then accepted employment as a civil service clerk typist at Farmers Home Administration in Thief River Falls, MN. In 1944, she was promoted in the same position to the office in Wheaton, MN.
April 19, 1949, she was united in marriage to Myron I. Maudal, Wheaton, MN, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, St. Cloud, MN. They were blessed with four children: Claude, Kathryn, Ann, and Michael. They farmed the home Maudal farm in Traverse County, MN, until retiring in 1978. They moved to Alexandria, MN, in July of 1988.
Myron and Mary enjoyed traveling to visit children and grandchildren, taking trips on Utopia Tours, and attending the annual Army reunions. Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria, a member of Christian Mothers and Mission Societies, and was an oblate of St. Benedict’s since 1941. Family was an important part of Mary’s life. She loved to host family gatherings, found joy in making quilts to give away, raising African Violets, and exercising to keep fit. She was proud in her role as wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Myron Maudal; her parents; one daughter, Kathryn Maudal; and one sister, Sr. Kathryn Zimmer, OSB, of Bismarck, ND.
She is survived by her children, Claude (Rita) Maudal, of Lisbon, ND, Ann Maudal of Oak Park Heights, MN, and Michael (Cindy) Maudal, of Carlos, MN; grandchildren, Kaye, Rachel (Quehan), Ethan (Jenessa), and Molly; sisters, Sister Alard, OSB, St. Cloud, MN, and Dorothy Zimmer, St. Cloud, MN; and brother, Father Nicholas Zimmer, Braham, MN.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria.. Reverend Father Steve Binsfeld was the celebrant. Interment followed at the Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton, MN.
