Mary Peterson

Mary Ellen (Norlin) Peterson was born September 14, 1928, to Oscar and Charlotte Norlin in Wautoma, Wisconsin.  She attended school in Wautoma, WI and was the Valedictorian of her graduating class.  She married a local boy, Allen Peterson on September 14, 1948.  Mary, a lifelong Lutheran spent her entire life living out her faith.  Early in their marriage of 67 years, she worked as a secretary to support their family and put Allen through seminary.  In addition to raising their five children, Mary worked by Allen’s side supporting his 40 plus year ministry. Once the kids were grown she went back to work outside the home.  One of her favorite positions was working in the International Division of Medtronic.

Mary’s greatest joy besides her love for Jesus, was her husband, Al and her family.  When time allowed, she also enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading, and ministering to the elderly.  Mary and Allen shared their love for Jesus and their family through singing.  It was an integral part of their ministry and was frequently asked to share their gift of music at church and family events.

Mary died January 25, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Nelson Gables in Alexandria at the age of 89.  She was preceded in death by her mother and father; husband, Allen; son, David Allen; son-in-law, Chuck Perkins; and brother, Austin Norlin.  She is survived by daughters: Susie (Steve) Bodurtha, St. Anthony, MN; Sally (Ron) Lacey, Bryan, TX; Sara Perkins, Elk River, MN; and Son, Paul (Dionne) Peterson, Alexandria, MN.  Mary is also survived by her sister, Virgina Bei, Wautoma, WI;  sisters-in-law: Luverne Norlin, Wautoma, WI; Thea Stecker, Colorado Springs, CO; Ingrid Strimbu, Thornton, CO; Elaine Peterson, Brookfield, WI; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, January 29, 2018, at Nelson Gables in the Governor’s Room in Alexandria.  Visitation and refreshments will follow the service at Nelson Gables.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the family to be given to a variety of charities.
