Mary Delores ?Tootsie? Porter was born April 8, 1930 in Alexandria, MN, the daughter of Bert And Mary ((Buckley) Porter. Mary was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Alexandria. She was raised in Alexandria and graduated from Alexandria Central High School. Following her schooling Mary went to work for the City of Alexandria in the City Clerk?s office. She was employed there for over twenty years. After retiring from City Hall Mary went to work at Woolworth?s in Alexandria. She was with Woolworth?s for about ten years. She later worked at Iverson?s Shoes and McCabe?s Camera Shop. Mary retired when she began her battle with cancer. Mary enjoyed spending time golfing and swimming. She also enjoyed tending to her flower gardens. Mary was an avid sports fan and liked to watch sports on television, especially football. Mary also kept current with the news and did a good deal of reading. Mary was a caretaker. She knew what goes around, comes around and she blessed many peoples lives by providing care and kindness when they needed it. She was always willing to volunteer her time to help others or take someone under her wing. Mary?s family was also important to her. Mary was always proud of her home and family. On Sunday, January 18, 2009 Mary died at the age of seventy-eight years in the sub-acute care unit at Bethany Home. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Roy Edward Porter, Rollie Edwin Porter, Melvin Bert Porter, Harvey Robert Porter, Harold Herbert Porter, Marvin Chester Porter and Vernon Donald Porter; and her sister, Vivian Margaret Porter. Mary is survived by one brother, Daniel J Porter and wife, Elaine, of Chaska, MN; two sisters-in-law, Agatha Porter of Sartell, MN and Lorraine Porter of Alexandria; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A funeral service was held Friday, January 23, 2009 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Rev. Dale Olson officiated. Kim Byrne and Ron Anderson provided music. Interment followed in the Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers included Chad Roquette, Jeff Roquette, Robert Porter, Dale Dvorsak, Steve Roquette and Gene Odegard. Honorary casket bearers included all of Mary?s nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
