Mary Kay Shoemaker

Mary Kay Shoemaker (Ettel) was born on November 13, 1954, in Freeport, MN to Al and Lori Ettel. She married Larry Shoemaker on August 12, 1977, in Hennepin County. Together they had two daughters, Kimberly and Dawn. After moving to Alexandria in 1995, Mary began working at Knute Nelson Memorial Home. She enjoyed helping others and worked hard taking care of her family. She loved taking care of her family, reading, doing diamond dots, cop shows, and doing puzzles. After retiring, Mary found a bit too much time on her hands and decided to work part time at Prairie Community Services helping people once more. Mary welcomed a granddaughter in 2011 and enjoyed spending time with her. Mary's favorite holiday was Christmas, and she carried the spirit of the holiday with her throughout the year. Mary passed away early in the morning on March 18, 2025 

Mary is proceeded in death by her parents and husband. She is survived by her daughters: Kimberly Shoemaker (Pat), and Dawn Gustafson (Mark); Sisters: Doris Hock, Judy Merwin, and Terri (Chris) Ellering; Brothers: Dick, Fred (Judy), Linus (Geri), Gary, and Mark (Michelle) Ettel; Granddaughter: Sophia; and 13 nieces and nephews.
