Mary Lou Unger was born on December 1, 1926 in Lake Mary Township, Douglas County, Minnesota to Louis and Helen (Carter) Muzik. She was united in marriage to Leo G. Unger on June 17, 1946. To this union the couple was blessed with five children. Mary Lou enjoyed playing cards, going to casinos, cooking, baking and most recently started in needlework and sequin calendars. She was very supportive in her children?s passions, and had a love for her dogs, Rudy, Charlie, and her nursing home companion, Pep. Mary Lou loved horses, with her last ride being in July of 2006. Mary Lou also loved gardening, canning, and baking pies. She enjoyed being a volunteer at Bethany Home, working in the coffee shop and helping Tuesday morning with hair care. Mary Lou died on Friday, August 15, 2008 at Bethany Home at the age of 81. She is survived by her son, Joe (Michelle) Unger of Alexandria; daughters, Nancy Wachter of Odessa, MN, Pat (Glenn) of Rochester, MN, Mary (Jim) Blair of Lowry, and Tammy (Scott) Eckstein of Alexandria; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Glen (Arlene) Muzik of Alexandria. Mary Lou is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Helen; husband, Leo; grandson, Lukas; and brother, Harvey Muzik. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Reverend Steve Binsfeld officiating. Entombment was held in the St. Mary?s Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers were all of Mary Lou's grandchildren, Adam Oldenburg, Rob Knutson, Travis Unger, Anthony Spease, Blair Eckstein, Megan Eckstein, Shelby Blair, Jenna Blair, Katey Unger, Chase Johnson, and Kelly Johnson. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
