Matthew Kjelland

Matthew James Kjelland was born on September 8, 1985 in Alexandria, Minnesota the son of Michael and Susan (Kragnes) Kjelland. Matt had a wonderful childhood as he lived in an awesome neighborhood where the boys enjoyed playing basketball, baseball or playing in the treasure in the vacant lot. He attended Alexandria High School where he was on the football, basketball, cross country, track and baseball teams. Matt furthered his education at Moorhead State University receiving his Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science and Community Health. He was employed as the Manager of the GNC store in Moorhead and the YMCA in Fargo.

He loved teasing – especially getting his dad going or his rivalry with his mom when the Twins were playing the Yankees. Matt participated in triathlons for several years with his Dad. He will be remembered as a kind, sensitive, loyal man who was very respectful and had a hearty laugh. His kindness showed through in his willingness to always help older adult friends and his grandparents while living in Moorhead.

Matt also enjoyed time with family and friends at the lake, going grouse hunting and watching Chris Farley movies. Matt and Andy had a special connection with the time that they spent together at the family cabin. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs.

Matt died on Friday, September 23, 2016. He is survived by his parents: Mike & Sue; brother, Andrew of Colorado; grandma, Dorothy Kjelland of Valley City; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Henry & Evelyn Kragnes, Allan Kjelland; two uncles: Carl Jack and Mike Jay.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28th, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, with services held on Thursday, September 29, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Alexandria.
