Mavis A. Goslinga, age 96, formally of Carlos, died peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Woodlyn Heights Senior Living in Inver Grove Heights, MN.
Mavis was born on May 26, 1923, in Sioux Center, Iowa, the oldest daughter of Melvin and Bertha (Thomas) Tarrell. On March 22, 1944, Mavis was united in marriage to George Goslinga at the Methodist Church in Ireton, Iowa. After their marriage, they resided in Orange City, IA where Mavis worked at the hospital and nursing home. In 1964, the Goslinga family bought a lot and built a cabin in Alexandria on the east side of Lake Carlos where they would go in the summer. In 1973, they made that their permanent home. The first two summers after moving to Alexandria, Mavis worked as the head cook at Theatre L’Homme Dieu. She then worked and finished her career working in the kitchen at Andy’s Interlachen where she made the most awesome onion rings. The Goslinga’s were long time members of the United Methodist Church in Alexandria. Mavis enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening and fishing.
She is survived by her four children: Sharon & husband, Bruce Swanson of Cottage Grove, MN, Dianne Mouw of Denver, CO, Terry & wife, Bonnie of Crystal, MN, Brenda & husband, Steve Myers of Hastings, MN; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, her parents, grandson, Mike and younger sister, Melva.
Funeral services will be held at a later date with burial at Carlos Prairie Cemetery in Carlos, MN.
