Mavis Jeanette Gulbrandson was born on December 22, 1932 the daughter of Melvin and Josephine (Peterson) Bolstad. She grew up on a farm in Urness Township and graduated from Brandon High School. She married Norman Gulbrandson on September 20, 1951 in West Moe Lutheran Church. Together they had four children born to this union Wayne, Diane, Marty, and Laurie. Mavis lived in Kentucky while Norman was in the service and then in Alexandria on Lake Carlos for a short time before moving to Hoffman, MN in 1956. She was a homemaker and took care of her family with loved and compassion. She was a great cook and liked to bake goodies for her grandchildren. She tended to her many gardens growing different flowers and vegetables. Mavis also worked as the bookkeeper for Norm?s Auto Sales. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she was involved with many church activities. Her greatest enjoyment was her family celebrations. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Mavis J. Gulbrandson died on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Hoffman Good Samaritan Center at the age of 78 years old. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years Norman Gulbrandson of Hoffman, MN; son Marty Gulbrandson of Hoffman; daughters Diane Borner and friend Gary Anderson of Elbow Lake, MN; Laurie Gulbrandson of Hoffman; six grandchildren Coty (Josh) Warner of Barrett, MN; Dallas Gulbrandson of Alexandria; Dillon (Leah) Gulbrandson of Alexandria; Dustin (Rachael) Gulbrandson of Hoffman; Austin Gulbrandson of Hoffman; and Casey Borner of Garfield, MN; eight great grandchildren; and brother Harvey (Linda) Bolstad of Carlos, MN. She was preceded in death by her son Wayne Gulbrandson and her parents. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Hoffman, MN with the Reverend Nathan officiating. LaVern Olson was the organist and Carol Sylskar was the soloist. Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery in Hoffman, MN. Casket Bearers were Dallas Gulbrandson, Dillon Gulbrandson, Dustin Gulbrandson, Austin Gulbrandson, Casey Borner, and Coty Warner.
