OBITUARY
Mavis Aileen Issendorf was born on May 29, 1928 in Wheaton, MN the youngest of seven children born to John and Britta (Halvorson) Engeldorf. Mavis was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Wheaton, MN. She grew up on a farm in Redpath Township near Wheaton. She attended District #14 country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Wheaton High School.
On September 12, 1948 she was married to Lowell Issendorf at the Swedish Mission Church in Wheaton. To this marriage two beautiful children were born: son Larry and daughter Lynette “Lyn”. Mavis and family attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wheaton. She was very active in the church serving in church circles and teaching many years of confirmation. They farmed until 1970 when Lowell and Mavis moved to Alexandria. Mavis worked for Douglas County from 1970 to 1979. During this time she was the first Senior Citizen Director of Douglas County. She helped organize ten Senior Centers and three Nutrition Centers. In 1979 Mavis went to work full time for the city of Alexandria as the Housing Director working at Viking Towers. She also worked with HUD and oversaw the building Woodhill Townhouses. She also taught ceramic classes for the seniors at Viking Towers. Working with the seniors of Douglas County was the joy and fulfillment of her career. Mavis retired in 1991.
Mavis was loving and giving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She instilled family values into her children and grandchildren. She loved her church as well and enjoyed belonging to Rachel’s circle. Gardening, planting flowers, canning, reading, and collecting stain glass angles were some Mavis’s hobbies. Mavis loved to cook and bake for family gathering. She also loved to visit with her family and friends and selflessly gave her time and love to everyone she was close to. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mavis A. Issendorf died on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Edgewood Vista in Alexandria at the age of 86 years old. She is survived by her daughter Lyn (Chris) Charboneau of Alexandria; grandchildren Brian (Veronica) Powers of Alexandria, Marcie (Scott) Kluver of Alexandria, Chad Bartholomew of Alexandria, Lisa (Ryan) Moody of Archison, Kansas, and Britta Charboneau of Thief River Falls, MN; great grandchildren Madison, John, Jordon, Emily, Stephanie, Daniel, Corey, Justin, Aaron, Matthew, EmmaLee, BreeAnna, and KateLyn, She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lowell Issendorf, son Larry Issendorf and brothers and sisters.
A Memorial Service was held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Mike Widner officiating. Inurnment was in the Kinkead Cemetery. Urn bearers were all of Mavis’s Great Grandchildren.
