Mavis Madden, formerly of Alexandria and Golden Valley, died at home on January 13, 2016. She was 84 years old. Mavis was born April 26, 1931 in Holmes City Township. She graduated from Alexandria High School in 1949. Mavis worked for Dr. James H. Cain in Alexandria for several years, then moved to Minneapolis in 1969. She worked for the University of Minnesota Support Services for 26 years, retiring in 1994. After her retirement, Mavis worked part-time for 5 more years at the University for the Technical Assistance Program Department. Mavis is survived by her children: Michele Rupp (Menasha, WI), Cheryl Madden (Auburn, WA), Robert Madden (Woodland, WA); 2 granddaughters, Christina (Jessie) Rangel (Puyallup, WA), Nicole Madden (fiance Michael May) (Vancouver, WA); 3 great granddaughters, Ateyla, Javona and Cecillia; sister Clarice Kemp (Long Lake, MN), brother Clinton (Rebeca) Wesen (Anchorage,AK); 4 nieces and numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Hazel Wesen, brother Marvin, Jr., nephew Charles Kemp, and daughter-in-law Terry Madden. Memorial service will be held at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria on Saturday, April 30, at 2:00 p.m. Following the interment at Van Loon Cemetery in Holmes City Township, there will be a gathering for family and friends at the Holmes City Township Hall.
