Mavis Vandegrift

Mavis was born on March 20, 1935, in Alexandria, Minnesota the daughter of Oscar and Charlotte (Anderson) Johnson.  She attended Central High School in Alexandria graduating in 1953.  She continued her education at St. Cloud State University and then transferred to the University of Northern Co. and received her Bachelors Degree in Education and then attended the University of Hartford receiving her Masters in Education in 1970.

Over the years Mavis taught in Minnesota, Colorado, Connecticut, and Maryland retiring in 2003.  She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma (Education Society).  During her spare time she loved to travel back home to Minnesota several times, Las Vegas, Sweden, Norway, England, Hawaii, Alaska and Caribbean were among her many adventures.

Mavis passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2018 in Las Vegas.  She is survived by her children: Ronald Jr. (Lauree), Jane (Don Hay); four grandchildren: Sarah Grace, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Rebekkah; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Viola Strom of Brandon, brother, Gerald Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018, 1:00 PM at Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon.  Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and continue on Friday from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM at the Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon.  In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Chippewa Lutheran Church 6655 Co. Rd. 7 NW  Brandon, MN
