Maxine was born on March 31, 1924, in Evansville, Minnesota the daughter of Walter & Signe (Anderson) Erickson. She was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Covenant Church. Maxine attended Evansville High School and graduated in 1942. After graduation she worked for her Aunt Jennie as a photographer at Nelson Studio in Wheaton, Minnesota. On September 5, 1959, Maxine was united in marriage to Ward Aas in Evansville, Minnesota. After their marriage the couple lived in Wheaton where Maxine continued to work as a photographer until the birth of their son, David in 1960. Karen was born two and half years later. In 1963, the Aas family moved to Thief River Falls. While David and Karen were in school Maxine started a daycare. She enjoyed the time with the children and coffee at the end of the day with the moms. After twenty-one years in Thief River Falls Maxine and Ward moved to Wadena and finally in 1986 retired to Alexandria. Maxine will be remembered by her grandchildren as ?cookie grandma? and she always looked forward to their visits. She also loved to read and visit with neighbors and friends. Her children will miss her calls every Saturday at 9:00 a.m. Mrs. Aas died on Friday, July 24, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Ward; two children: David & wife, Rev. Holly Aastuen of Shoreview, MN, Karen & husband, Red Mastin of St. Cloud, MN; six grandchildren: Ben, Nathan, Alec, Eli, Kristian, Ana; brother, Earl & wife, Lois Erickson; sisters: Kathlyn Hanson and Betty Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dale Olson and Rev. Holly Aastuen officiating. Burial was at Mound Grove Cemetery in Evansville.
