OBITUARY Maybel Caroline Czapiewski, the daughter of Chris and Anna (Skavlem) Oas, was born on March 23, 1915 in Oslo, MN. She graduated from Oslo High School in 1933 and continued her education at a business school in Park River, ND. She subsequently worked as a bookkeeper at the Robertson Lumber Company in Grand Forks, ND. Maybel was united in marriage to Hilary Czapiewski in 1943. Before his deployment overseas during WWII, the couple spent four months in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Maybel then returned to Oslo to wait for Hilary?s return. After the war ended, Maybel and Hilary settled in Hallock, MN where they built their home and raised their three children, Jane, Joan, and Chris. Besides being a mother and homemaker, Maybel enjoyed writing and reading poetry and composing songs which she would sing to her children. Our bedtime favorite was Sandman is Coming. She put a high value on education and instilled that value in her children. During the school year, home study sessions were a must. Maybel was fond of attending the neighborhood coffee parties. When it was her turn, popovers were her specialty. She also made great pies and angel food cakes with fresh strawberries. Maybel left family members in stitches with her wicked sense of humor and her one line retorts. Maybel and Hilary stayed in Hallock for over 55 years. In 2003, they both moved to nursing homes in Alexandria, MN, where they were closer to their daughters, son and other family members. Maybel spent 10 years at Knute Nelson Nursing Home where the clients and staff became her second family. She was best known for her twinkling blue eyes, her ever ready smile, and the miles she clocked with her walker. And don?t forget her love of chocolate! Maybel C. Czapiewski died on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Knute Nelson at the age of 99 years. She is survived by her children Jane Hilary (John Coss) of Brooklyn Park, MN, Joan (Rich) Akkerman of Alexandria, MN, and Chris (Carol) Czapiewski of Northfield, MN; sister Alice Anderson of Oslo, MN; grandchildren Benjamin Farstad, Dominic Farstad, Shaun (Sarah) Fleck, and Kelsey Czapiewski; nieces and nephews.
