Maycel Kathlyn (Anderson) Clark was born to Enoch and Effie (Johnson) Anderson on June 5, 1925 in Holmes City, MN. She helped out on the farm and enjoyed taking care of their horses. Maycel became deaf early in her childhood from several falls and bumps to her head. She graduated from the School for the Deaf in Faribault. She was involved with the drama club and choirs in her school. After graduating in 1945 she worked at Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul for almost 5 years. Maycel married Robert Clark, whom she met at school, on April 10, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City. They lived in St. Cloud and Moorhead a few years before moving to Alexandria in 1953. Maycel was able to work as a custodian for Calvary Lutheran Church for 18 years, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.
Maycel’s family and grandchildren were very important to her. She touched many lives with her caring heart, loving and kindness. She made beautiful quilts for her family and grandchildren in her late 70’s. Maycel loved sewing, dancing, singing, cooking, and entertaining. She especially loved spending time with family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Maycel had a strong bond with God, and is now in Heaven. Her favorite motto “Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much” and her spirit will live on with each and every one of the people she touched in her life.
Maycel died on Friday, March 20, 2015 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 89 years old. She is survived by her grandson Christopher (Matthew) Jarvi of Seattle, WA; granddaughters Jennifer (J.T. Loucks) Freeman of Plymouth, Reba Skaar of Shakopee, and Erin (Chad) Moore of Circle Pines; great grandchildren Abigail “Abbey” Freeman, Josephine Moore, Mason Moore, Gunner Moore and T.J. Loucks; sons-in-law Joel Jarvi of Bowlus and Charles Freeman of Plymouth; godsons Robert Malz of Alexandria and Frederic Krafthefer of Farwell; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. Maycel was preceded in death by her husband Robert Clark; daughters Deborah Freeman and Kathlyn Jarvi; infant son Bobby; parents; sisters Ardyce Chronis-Malz and infant sister Dorothy; and her beloved dog Smokey.
A funeral service was held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Holmes City, MN.
