Mayme Gladys (Zaviska) Rajdl was born on February 24, 1927, on the family farm in Lake Mary Township, Douglas County, Minnesota to Stanley and Mary (Prchal) Zaviska. She attended County School at District 13 in Lake Mary Township through the 8th grade. Mayme worked a short time at Cliff’s Little Grocery Store and also did some waitressing.
Mayme was united in marriage to Harvey J. Rajdl on October 30, 1946, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. To this union they were blessed with three daughters, Sharon Kay, Sonya Lane and Jacqueline Hope. The couple farmed on the Rajdl Century Family Farm their entire lives. She was always known to open her home to guests and family members that traveled, always had food to share and opened her heart to everyone who entered her home. Mayme remained in her home until January of 2019 when she moved to Edgewood Vista.
Her garden was her pride and joy, along with her hollyhocks, lawn mowing, and playing whist. Her fishing skills were above compare and could hold her own against her grandsons and great-grandsons. She was known for her classy and unexpected wit. She will always be remembered for her “out of the world kolaches”, her patience and grace...no matter what circumstances she always seemed to be that calming presence. Mayme had many names she answered to including; Wife, Mom, Grandma, Grandma Mayme, “GG” for Great-Grandma, Graham Cracker, Grasshopper, Little Bird, and Kolache Momma!
