Maynard Radil

Maynard Gary Radil was born on September 28, 1935, to Henry and Mary (Dinda) in Lake Mary Township, Minnesota. He attended country school in Lake Mary Township through the 8th grade before starting to work on the family farm. Maynard served in the National Guard and made many trips to Camp Ripley. He drove milk truck for Clifford Schlief. It was while driving milk truck that he met Clifford’s daughter, Stella. On October 10, 1961, Maynard and Stella were united in marriage. To this union the couple was blessed with one son and three daughters. The family lived on the Radil farm where Maynard was born and raised.

Maynard served on the Board of Directors for Cenex for 30 years and took care of mowing the grass at Lake Mary Cemetery. He enjoyed deer hunting, playing black jack, going to barn dances, and teasing Stella’s daycare kids. Maynard was a dairy and crop farmer, one of his greatest joys was driving and seeing the country side. After retiring he stayed on the farm until his health changed and he moved in with his daughter, Kelly and her family five years ago.

Maynard died unexpectly on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 79. He is survived by children, Sheri (Dave) Wolhart of Sartell, MN, Anita Angen of Alexandria, Kelly (Pat) Doherty of Garfield, MN and Michael Radil of Alexandria; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Maynard is preceded in death by wife, Stella; parents, Henry and Mary Radil; sister, June Chan; and infant brother.

A funeral service was held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend John Taplin officiating. Interment was at Lake Mary Cemetery in Alexandria, MN. Casket bearers were Maynard’s grandchildren, Justin Wolhart, Cody Wolhart, Alex Wolhart, Collin Doherty, Jack Doherty, Adam Angen, Miranda Angen and Ariel Wheeler. Honorary casket bearers were Maynard’s great-grandchildren, Matthew Golden, Tristan Angen, Lexi Angen, Veyda Angen, Khloe Wheeler, and Oliver Wheeler.

Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN.
