Melvin Peter Boesen, age 85, of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2017.
Melvin was born in Little Falls, Minnesota on July 11, 1931. He was the eldest of five children born to Clarence and Adelheid Boesen. His family moved to Millerville, Minnesota where he attended Millerville Parish School in his formative years, and graduated from Brandon High School in 1949. After serving in the Navy, Melvin continued his education at St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he earned his degree in accounting.
Melvin married Alice Roers on August 18, 1956. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last year. They raised their three children, and lived in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, before retiring to Lake Carlos in Alexandria, Minnesota.
After passing the CPA exam, Melvin joined the accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. where he worked for a few years before taking a position with Investors Diversified Services (IDS), which later was bought by Allegheny and finally by American Express (now Ameriprise). After rising to the position of Vice President and Controller, Melvin retired from American Express in 1993.
Melvin loved being on the lake. A perfect day for him was fishing in the morning, golfing in the afternoon, and playing cards with family in the evening (unless the Twins were on TV). He also looked forward to hunting with his brothers and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, and infant son, Melvin Peter Boesen, Jr., Melvin is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter, Marcia Johnson (Brian), and their daughters: Leah Carlson (Kale) and Dana Johnson; son, Thomas Boesen; and son, Daniel Boesen (Joan) and Dan's step-children: Adrienne Mutzenberger (Jason) and her daughters, Isabelle Warren and Lily Mutzenberger, and Aaron Loso (Jaime) and their children Aston Loso and Kingsley Loso. Melvin is also survived by his brothers: Bernard Boesen (Maureen), Gary Boesen (Colleen), John Boesen (Melanie), and Carol Rentz (Tom), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
