Melvin Grundei

Melvin L. Grundei was born on October 27, 1929 the son of John and Christine (Carlquist) Grundei in Belle River Township.  He graduated from high school in 1947 in Alexandria.  From there, he went onto farming with his father. 

In June of 1953, Melvin married Adella Feda.  To this union five children were born: Janet (Alan) Cleve of Prescott, AZ, Jim (Karen) Grundei of Carlos, Jean Steen of Alexandria, Judy (Rex) Clay of Long Prairie, Joyce Luckow of Coon Rapids; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. 

Melvin farmed until 1974.  He and Adella had a new home built in Carlos that year.  He worked at 3M for 17 years until he retired.  He enjoyed fishing in his spare time, when he could get out.  Card playing was a good pastime with family and friends.  A drive uptown for the mail and morning coffee was something he looked forward to several days a week. 

Melvin was a great joke teller and had no problem remembering them! He had a joke for every moment and every occasion.  He put smiles on many faces and could fill a room with laughter. 

Melvin died on Monday, December 11, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Adella of 55 years, son, Jim two older brothers and sister.  He will truly be missed by those who loved him and all the lives he had touched and hearts he made smile.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, 11:00 - 2:00 PM at Herbys in Carlos.
