Merl Muyres

Merl Eugene was born on May 29, 1928 in Belle River, Minnesota, the son of Valentine ?VJ? & Mary (Fanning) Muyres. Merl graduated from Agricultural School in Morris, Minnesota. He took over the family trucking business (Muyres Truck Line), which was his lifelong career. Merl was united in marriage to Iona Dailey on October 30, 1946. The couple resided in Carlos, where they raised four children: Barbara, Doug, Nancy and Patricia. Merl was a volunteer fireman in Carlos for over thirty-five years. He enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino. Other hobbies he shared with friends and family were: hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. Merl died on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Clearwater Suites in Alexandria. He is survived by three children: Doug (Joyce) Muyres of Carlos, Nancy (Jerry) Steidl of Bloomington, Patricia (Pete) Serie of Maple Grove; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, sister, Betty Mae (John) Feda of Marshall; several nieces, nephews and special friend, Annie Elsner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iona in 1982, daughter, Barbara in 2006, grandchild, Kimberly Ann Drexler, great-grandchild, Lily Springer and brother, Melvin. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River with Rev. LeRoy Scheierl officiating. Pallbearers were Ryan Steidl, Zachariah Serie, Michael Diedrich, Eric Drexler, Valerie Muyres, Marianne Muyres, Chris Saulsbury. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Belle River. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
