Merton Henry Roehler was born on June 14, 1928 to John and Anna (Laue) Roehler. Merton attended grade school in Martin County, Minnesota until the eighth grade. He then started working odd jobs to help support the family. When he was old enough to enlist, he joined the United States Army, serving for three years during World War II. Merton worked various jobs after being discharged from the military, working a majority of his life as a ring man for auction sales. He truly enjoyed working and attending auctions. In his spare time he could be found in his wood shop working on creating a variety of things. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Millerville Township and the Evansville American Legion.
On Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at the age of eighty-seven, Merton went to be with his Lord and Savior. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, a daughter, one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his four sons, Merton “Sonny” ( Sherri) Roehler, II of Esterville, IA, Mark (Nancy) Roehler of Belle Fourche, SD, Mike (Penny) Roehler of New Iberia, LA, and Merlin (Chris) Roehler of Estherville, IA; three daughters, Twyla (Bob) Vandenburgh of Glenwood, MN, Sheryl (Larry) Hicks of Deadwood, SD, and Sheila (Steve) Drees of Wall, SD; three stepchildren, Jan (William) Nelson of Becker, MN, Donal (Paulette) Anderson of St. Cloud, MN, and David (Virginia) Anderson of Dunnell, MN; brother, Clarence (Mitch) Mitchell of Lake Park, IA; sisters, JoAnn Stinehart of Shell Lake, WI, and Jean (Ron) Weilert of Clarksville, AR; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
