Mervwyn (Merv) Mock was born April 28, 1935 to Max and Veronica (Maehren) Mock in Holdingford Township, MN. He attended Holdingford High School graduating in 1953. Merv joined the U.S. Navy in 1954 and attended basic training at the Great Lakes Naval training center and was accepted into the U.S. Naval Hospital Corpsman school at the same training center. Merv was stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Newport, RI. He was accepted into the Physical Therapy training program at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Upon graduation he served at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bremerton, WA and the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yakushika, Japan. Merv was discharged from the Navy in November of 1957 as a Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class. Merv worked for one year at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, MN before being accepted into the Radiologic Technologist training program at the St. Cloud Hospital. Upon graduation in 1960 he accepted a position at the Virginia Municipal Hospital as Director of Radiology and School of Radiologic Technology. In 1970 Merv accepted the position of Director of Radiology at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN. He remained there until his retirement in October of 1996 Merv was united in marriage to Linda Anderson of Springfield, OR on November 24, 1960 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in St. Wendel, MN. Linda and Merv were blessed with five children Michelle, Mary, Michael, Matthew and Marlys. Merv was active in his profession, serving as Chairman and Co-Chairman for several state meetings. He was selected as Minnesota Technologist of the Month in 1980 and Minnesota Technologist of the Year in 1993. He served on the Board of Directors of the St. Mary's Home and School Association, one year as President. He was a thirty-year member of the Alexandria Elks. He was a founding member of Selective TV of Alexandria and served on its Board of Directors for many years, and also served as Selective TV?s President. Merv loved to bowl, hunt and fish and enjoyed many hours on the Alex lakes with his family and grandchildren. On Saturday, July 5, 2008 Merv died at the age of seventy-three years. Merv is survived by his wife Linda of forty-seven years; his children, Michelle Ovando of Portland, OR, Mary Carter and fianc�, Mark Wilhelmy, of Hudson, WI, Michael Mock and wife, Janet, of Bemidji, MN, Matthew Mock and wife, Sandy, of Jacksonville, FL, Marlys Mock and husband, Tom Benton, of Portland, OR; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Philip, Daryn, Jesyka, Jessica, Elizabeth, Andrea, and Joseph; one brother, Bill Mock and wife, Linda, of St Joseph, MN; and three sisters, Geraldine Mock of Seattle, WA, Harriet Addison and husband, Allen, of Olethe, KS, and Vivian Kuntuzos and friend, Gary Yinger, of Minnetonka, MN. Merv is preceded in death by his parents Max and Veronica Mock. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria. Rev. Fr. Steven Binsfeld was the celebrant. Entombment followed in St. Mary?s Cemetery. Casket bearers included Robert Roering, Leonard Floding, Allen Addison, Allen Weddell, Dale Ellison and LeRoy Karrow. The American Legion Post 87 and VFW Post 936 accorded military honors. Memorials are preferred to the Hospice Program, Douglas County Public Health, Alexandria, MN. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
