Michael Thomas Dunn age 75 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 12, 2017. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria at 11:00 AM. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 16th from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service starting at 7:00PM, both at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. A visitation will also take place the day of the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.
OBITUARY
Michael Thomas Dunn was born on January 3, 1942 in Osakis, Minnesota, the son of Thomas J. and Angeline (Ritter) Dunn. He attended school at Osakis Public School. After high school, Mike worked three summers for the Great Northern Railroad in Montana. He moved back to Minnesota and worked for his uncle in the metro area as a cement finisher, until returning to Alexandria where he owned his own concrete business for eight years. He then went to Texas for one winter to help build houses. Ultimately returning to Minnesota where he worked as a concrete mason out of the metro area until he retired in 2003.
On November 7, 1963 Mike and Myrna Ritzschy were united in marriage. Although the marriage did not last, the couple was blessed with three children, Merle, Michelle and Mark. Mike later married Dorothy (Radil) Keller of Alexandria on February 7, 1992. With this union, Mike had the privilege to be a second father to Randy, Kim, and Dawn.
Michael was known for his meticulous work ethic and being a skilled handy man. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors but, his most prized restoration a 1957 Chevy Bel Air. Michael enjoyed playing pool, horseshoes and he was an avid bowler for the local men's bowling league for many years.
Michael passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 12, 2017 after a long battle with PBC liver disease. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; children, Michelle Phoenix, Merle (Virginia) Dunn, Mark Dunn, Kim (Steve) Fagen, Randy (Dawn) Keller, Dawn Cochran and Chad Helmick, stepdaughter Beth Housen; seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Pat Dunn, Daniel (Lynda) Dunn, Richard (Paulette) Dunn, Eleanor (Robert) Zimmel, Sandy (Dale) Waldvogel, He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Angeline Dunn and brother, James Dunn.
A Mass of Christian Burial to be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with Reverend Father Steve Binsfeld presiding. The burial took place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria, MN.
