Michael John Kummrow, the son of Hilbert and Delores (Larson) Kummrow, was born on January 3, 1946 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Mike grew up on a farm near Kensington where he graduated from high school in 1965. He was united in marriage to Sharon Johnson on December 4, 1966 at St. Petri Lutheran Church. Together they lived on a farm near Holmes City and raised five children, Lori, Lisa, Larry, Lee, and Lana. Mike worked hard on the farm raising dairy cows, chickens, and horses and growing corn, oats and alfalfa. In 1985, they moved to a home near Lake Carlos and then purchased a home in Osakis in 1987. Mike worked janitorial services for several years and also with the Mayflower Moving Company.
Mike loved to go fishing. He spent many hours on the lake and enjoyed fishing with his wife Sharon and his friends. He also loved to hunt and enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandsons. Mike liked to grow flowers and tend to his gardens. Family was very important to Mike. He looked forward to the Kummrow annual camping trip and the annual “Gathering”. He was a hardworking man with a kind heart who will be forever in the memories of all who knew and loved him.
Michael J. Kummrow, died on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at his son’s home in Kensington, MN at the age of 74 years old. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Sharon Kummrow of Osakis; daughters, Lori (Mark) Koelln of Sauk Centre, Lisa (Steve) Reini of Iron, and Lana (Lonnie) Poelaert of Garfield; sons, Larry Kummrow of Kensington and Lee (Amy) Kummrow of Bethel; 11 grandchildren, Josh Koelln, Emilee Koelln, Alyssa Reini, Ashley Reine, Wesley Reini, Aaron (Megan) Poelaert, Marissa (Brandon) Hirsch, Joey (Kendra Johns) Sullivan, Cassie (Brett Helseth) Hayden, Alex Hayden and Billy Hayden; 5 great grandchildren, Peyton Hirsch, Kayden Hirsch, Kylie Hirsch, Cora Poelaert, Carson Poelaert and Maxwell Helseth; 7 siblings, Gene (Carol) Kummrow of Willmar, Vickie Forrestal of Coon Rapids, Tom (Judy) Kummrow of Kensington, Sam (Mary) Kummrow of Jackson, Ida (Bill) Eisel of Farwell, Loretta Kummrow of Anoka, and Joe (Cindy) Kummrow of Seattle, WA; mother-in-law, Nadine Johnson; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Hilbert and Delores Kummrow; stepfather, Clarence Getchell; sister, Julianne Strohmann; brother, Pat Kummrow; brother-in-law, Francis “Butch” Forrestal; and father-in-law, Orvin Johnson.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 11 AM at Osakis Lutheran Church. A visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 4-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Holmes City, Minnesota. Casket Bearers are Brent Gudmundson, Tyson Geise, Taylor Geise, Darrin Pastian, Kerry Kummrow and Tony Johnson. Honorary Casket Bearers are all of Michael’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
