October 25, 1954 — January 22, 2024

Alexandria

Michael Lommen, 69, of Alexandria passed away on January 22, 2024. A public visitation will take place on Friday, February 2, 2024 from 2:00-3:00PM at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, with a prayer service starting at 3:00.

Michael Bennet Lommen was born on October 25, 1954 to Gordon Olaf and Lois Ann (Fleming) Lommen in Little Falls, Minnesota. He attended public school in Little Falls and graduated with the class of 1972. Mike always had a flare for drama and participated in theater, at one time playing Romeo in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

Post-graduation, staying true to his theatrical nature, Mike attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis for broadcasting. He finished his training and was employed at KLTF Radio Station in Little Falls. During this time he was introduced to Kathleen Erickson through their mutual friend Jeff. The two began dating in 1976 and were married on April 8, 1978. Kate, her daughter Erika, and Mike became a close family.

Mike and Kate eventually parted ways for a period of time and Mike welcomed a son, Nicholas, with wife Renee. Mike loved being a father to Erika and Nic. And it was at this time he would work for KXRA in Alexandria, which he did between 1989 and his retirement in 2020. In 2006 Mike was reunited with Kate and in 2007 the couple purchased their home across the road from Lake Darling in Alexandria. Mike loved fishing and especially loved spending time on Ottertail Lake.

In November of 2023, Mike’s health started to decline. And in mid-December he was placed on hospice. Mike passed away peacefully at his home with Kate by his side on January 22, 2024; he was 69 years old. Left to cherish his memory are his partner, Kate Lommen; son, Nic and Lindsey Lommen, granddaughter, Tigerlilly Powers; sisters: Joni Marie Lommen and Jim Nordstrom, Mary and Doug Fregin; as well as many other beloved family and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Gordie and Flinkie Lommen; sister, Patti Harrison, and his daughter, Erika Hope Lommen.
