Michael James Maus was born on November 4, 1982 in Alexandria, MN to Richard and Kathy (Jones) Maus. He graduated from Peaks Charter School in Osakis in 2001. Mike went to work at Standard Iron where he worked for 12 years as a painter and a welder.
Mike loved the outdoors and loved his job with the Dirty Bird Outfitters. He worked as guide hunting snow geese from Arkansas, following the migration to South Dakota. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting deer, with his passion being hunting waterfowl. Mike also loved hunting for morel mushrooms in the spring. Mike was always a guy who had a smile and was laughing. He enjoyed being with his friends and considered them family.
Mike died on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at his father's home in Garfield surrounded by family at the age of 34. He is survived by his father, Rick Maus of Garfield; mother, Kathy Maus of Sauk Centre; brother, Chris Maus of Hudson, WI; sisters, Jennifer (Cory) Hanson of Surprise, AZ, Heather (Shawn) Shelby of Queen Creek, AZ, and Becca (Tom) Pierce of Alexandria; many nieces and nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Mike is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jim and Val Maus; and maternal grandparents, Gordy and Flavia Jones.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2:00 PM on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held 4-6 PM on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
