Michael Shawn Wells (commonly referred to as “Mikey”, “Mike”, “Spanky” and, “Wells”) was born to Tim and Donna Wells on February 15th, 1983, in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Mike graduated High School in Osakis, Minnesota, and graduated from Alexandria Technical College with a welding degree. Mike pursued his passion in creative arts, which were expressed most beautifully with his guitar, songwriting, and painting. Mike got his first fender Stratocaster guitar at 11 years old as a Christmas present from his Mom and Dad. Mike’s parents were always supportive and so proud of Mike for his ability to create art and music from his own vision.
Mike was blessed with a family. Mike and his girlfriend, Kirsten Webb, have a beautiful son, Brekken – 7-years old, and a daughter, Leila, who will be born in June 2022. Mike often said, “Brekken is my heart”, and he was so happy to have another baby on the way. Some of Brekken’s favorite times with his dad are riding dirt bike, playing guitar, snuggling, going to the beach, Brophy Park, and flying kites. Brekken shared that he especially liked when “My kite got stuck. Dad jumped a fence and landed on a rock to get it back.” One of Brekken’s favorite memories is when his dad would pretend to be a goat. His dad would make goat sounds and eat his mommy’s hair.
Mike was an artist at heart and could find a connection with anyone who enjoyed music and creativity. He loved painting, going to concerts, jamming around a fire, camping, riding dirt bike, and 4-wheeling. Mike had innate raw talent. Much of Mike’s passion was also stemmed from our parent's love for music across many genres, and also the freedom you feel from a motorcycle hitting the open road. Mike was goofy, quick-witted, impulsive, and he loved deeply.
Mike passed away on March 20th, 2022, at his home from cardiac arrest. He had an enlarged heart and narrowing of the vessels that supplied the heart.
Mike is survived by his son Brekken, his daughter Leila, his mother Donna Wells, his father Tim Wells, his sister Jayme Bratsch, brother-in-law Jeremy Bratsch, niece Lakeyn Bratsch, Nephew Colt Bratsch, his Grandmothers Kathy Wells, Nan Jones, and Laura Schinabarger, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Mike is proceeded in death by grandmother Geri Schmitz, and grandfathers Carl Wells, Jr., John. A Davis, Cyril M Schmitz, Don Ebel, and Fred Jones.
