Mildred Eleanore was born on March 2, 1920 in Clarissa, Minnesota the daughter of Paul and Eleanore Croonquist Johnson. She graduated from Clarissa High School and furthered her education receiving a degree in accounting. As young women Mildred was also very involved in the Luther League.
Mildred and her sister moved to Tacoma, Washington where she got a job with the IRS. It is here where she met Henry Novotny. On October 29, 1949, Mildred and Henry were united in marriage in Clarissa. The couple made their home in Bismarck after their marriage and moved to Jamestown in 1958, to Renville in 1963 before moving to Alexandria. Because of her tiny feet, Mildred was a shoe model for.various department stores.
Mildred was a wonderful mother who was busy bringing Larry and his friends to baseball games. She also loved time with her friends whether they were going on a picnic as families, having a campfire or going on sleigh rides – it was treasured times that she thoroughly enjoyed.
As a grandma her grandchildren loved staying at grandma’s house. She loved going outside and playing games or if the weather didn’t allow they would play games indoors. She was an avid card player, but especially enjoyex playing card games with the grandkids. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook who made the best creamed peas and potatoes.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 19, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
