Mildred Peterson

Mildred Evangeline (Magnuson) Peterson died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the age of ninety-seven years.

Millie was born June 16,1921 in La Grand Township, Douglas County, Minnesota to Carl and Hulda (Johnson) Magnuson. She attended school at District 88 and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1940.

On September 28,1940, Mildred married Vernon Alfred Peterson at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Garfield, MN. While Vernon was in the Army, Millie worked on their house that was moved to the present location by Brandon.

Millie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Chippewa Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, and the Brandon Cemetery Board. She was active in the Garden Club of Brandon and enjoyed flowers and gardening. Millie enjoyed working outdoors and cutting wood for winter heat. She also liked baking and will be especially remembered for her homemade donuts and lefse. Millie continued to snow ski on her wood ski's until the age of ninety. She enjoyed walks in the woods and finding lady slippers.

She is survived by son, John Peterson and wife, Cheryl, of Brandon, MN; grandchildren, Jeremy Peterson and wife, Catrina, of Brandon, Leigh Ann Barron and husband, Cory, of Starbuck and Rashal Malkush and husband, Joel, of Eagan; great grandchildren, Ethan, Nicholas, Riley, Serenity, Steinar and Henry; one sister, Helen Glade of Alexandria; sister-in-law, Helen Kuester, and many nieces and nephews.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Peterson; her sister, Edith Bartholomew; nephews, Roger and Leonard Bartholomew; and nieces, Ruth Ann and Donna Chan.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Brandon. Interment will be in the Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
