Mildred Adeline Schroeder, the daughter of Edward and Alma (Jobe) Kluver, was born on August 11, 1923 in Hudson Township, MN. Mildred grew up on the family farm and attended school through the eighth grade. She married DeWayne Schroeder on August 16, 1944 in Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Together they moved to a farm near Grove Lake, MN for about 5 years and then to the family farm in Hudson Township where they raised two children, Larry and Beverly. Mildred enjoyed staying at home working her flower and vegetable gardens and caring for her children.
After DeWayne’s death in 1984, Mildred moved to Alexandria and lived at the Senior Center. However, she continued to drive to the farm everyday in the summers to tend to her gardens and spend time outside.
Mildred was an intelligent, quiet, and sweet lady with a little stubbornness. Mildred liked to keep to herself but could also stand up for herself when she needed to. Family was always very important to Mildred. She loved to babysit her grandchildren, always making sure they were fed well and were having fun. Mildred loved music and memories of her playing the accordion or piano will forever be in the minds of those who knew and loved her.
