Mildred Lillian Skoglund was born on December 21, 1922 in Mentor, Minnesota one of five children of Arthur and Hannah Gunderson. Mildred attended grade school in Clearbrook, MN. On June 20, 1954, Mildred married Roger Skoglund in Thief River Falls, to this union five children were born. In 1966, Mildred and Roger moved to Staples, MN. In June, of 1977, Milly lost her husband in death. She worked as a nursing assistant at the nursing
home and hospital until she retired in 1986. After Mildred retired, she moved to Alexandria, later in life she lived with her daughter in Alexandria and son in Grand Rapids.
Mildred enjoyed knitting, crocheting, collecting salt and pepper shakers, cooking and baking all types of sweets; including baking and decorating wedding cakes. She also enjoyed playing in the dirt! She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and was very proud of her dinner plate dahlias. Mildred valued family the most. Her children knew that they were always her highest priority. She enjoyed teaching them to bake and cook, and sitting with them beside the campfire. Mildred was a lover of pets, but mostly enjoyed being with and around people.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Skoglund; Son, Jeff Skoglund; granddaughter, Hannah Stoeck; brothers, Norman Gunderson, Milford Gunderson and Russell Gunderson. She is survived by her children, Lynda Skoglund of Alexandria, Robyn (Bob) Grissman, Lauree Skoglund and Jon Matten of Carlton, Ralph Skoglund and Barb Block, of Grand Rapids; daughter-in-law, Laurie Skoglund of Oak Grove; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and her sister, Esther Peterson of Starbuck and sister-in-law, Chrystal Gunderson of CoosBay, Oregon.
