Minton Larson

Minton Omar Larson was born on February 15, 1933, in Dawson, Minnesota the son of Oscar and Minnie (Eigsberg) Larson.  He graduated from Dawson High School.  After graduation he served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Oriskany from September 28, 1951 – September 1, 1955.  During his time aboard the Oriskany he was listed as Honor Man.  After being honorably discharged Minton returned to Minnesota where he attended the University of Minnesota.

While attending the U of M Minton met the love of his life Diane Brovold.  The couple was united in marriage on August 18, 1956.  To this union two daughters were born Janell & Jill.  The family lived in the Brooklyn Park area before moving to Alexandria where Minton taught Industrial Arts for several years.  Throughout his life students would come up to him and other family members and say Minton was the reason they are working in that profession. He was a member of the Alexandria Golf Club for over 45 years where he enjoyed golfing with family and friends.

Minton will be remembered as a very social person who loved visiting with people, was a sensitive man who always knew when people needed help and was a class act in a quite way.  He also enjoyed fixing things and wouldn’t give up easily.  His children and grandchildren will always remember his “words of wisdom”.  The one attribute that family truly admired was his love and devotion to his wife – they were best friends who depended on each other and did everything together.

Minton died on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Diane; daughter, Jill (Dennis) Foley; granddaughter, Janae’(Natalie); great grandson, Silas.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janell Lyon; granddaughter, Lexi.

Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, 1:00 PM at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
