"Monty Hevern

December 23, 1931 — September 18, 2016

"Monty" Francis Hevern was born in Hillsboro, ND on December 23, 1931 to Josephine Lund Hevern and Francis G. Hevern. His family moved to Osakis, MN when he was a young boy. As a young man he moved to Livingston, Montana and worked for a ranch for a number of years. Monty retired from school district 206 after a number of years of service as a custodian in the district. His life centered around his family and the community. Monty was a charter member of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department Posse, retiring after 39 years of service.

In 1957 Monty & Jennie married, a year later came their son Randy; but little did Monty know his family would continue to grow by the 100's. Many people in crisis found comfort and kindness in their home. Kids adored Monty, he always wanted to make sure there was enough ice cream in the freezer and that everyone was safe and sound. The great stories of his ability to connect with kids was amazing. Three little boys loved him so much that when they got permanent housing they got a cat and named him Monty. He was surprised as he didn't even like cats. Another story that showed the patience and love of Monty is when a small child would hide under the kitchen table because she was afraid another fight would break out. He would lay on the kitchen floor and talk to her until one day she put her little arms up to have him pick her up, it was a great day. This was Monty's life, Jennie bringing home people and he never once said enough is enough. Monty loved spending his summers with his one and only grandchild Cole. They enjoyed going hunting in the fall until his health made it too hard to trample through corn fields and duck blinds.

Monty died on Sunday, September 18, 2016. He is survived by his wife Jennie Hevern; grandson Cole Hevern (Christine) and great granddaughter Slone, Cave Creek, AZ; His brother Russell (Iva)Hevern, Osakis, MN; His sister Marlene Molly Barber, Minneapolis, MN; his sister in-laws, Pat Bartz (Vernon), St. Cloud, MN and Eloyse Wade, Rapid City, SD. As well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son Randy, by his beloved Mother Jo, his father Francis, his brother Jack and his sister Maxine Waldvogel.
