Muriel Maxine Smith was born on April 24, 1942, in Bertha, Minnesota the daughter of Verlon and Doris (Miller) Noland. She grew up in Clarissa and graduated from Clarissa High School, then furthered her education at Minneapolis School of Business.
On October 8, 1960 Muriel married Wesley Smith at the United Methodist Church in Clarissa. After their marriage, the couple moved to Germany as Wesley was stationed there with the Army. After 15 months of living in Germany the couple moved back to Minnesota and made their home in Blaine. To this union two children were born: Scott and Judy. Muriel worked for several years as secretary at Dell Tech in Arden Hills.
In 1978, the couple bought a lot on Lake Ida where they built a cabin and later in 1994 made it their retirement home. The grandchildren called this their “Happy House” and many awesome memories were made. Muriel loved spending time here with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Muriel will be remembered as a great cook and was known for her fried chicken. She also enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, crocheting, and loved to listen to Patsy Cline.
Muriel died on Monday, November 2, 2020 after a long battle with dementia. She is survived by her husband, Wesley; son, Scott (Elizabeth), daughter, Judy (Jeff) Mader, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brothers: Russell Noland, Jay Noland; sisters Jeanette Lindquist, Tammy Maine.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer's Association.
