Myrtle Utley

Myrtle Linda (Nack) Utley was born on October 9, 1933, in Alexandria, Minnesota to Walter and Sophia (Ziegelmann) Nack.  She grew up in rural Osakis and was baptized on November 5, 1933, and confirmed on May 18, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria.  Linda graduated from Osakis High School on June 1, 1951.  She attended beautician school in St. Cloud, and came back to Alexandria for awhile doing hair.  Later, Linda moved to Phoenix, AZ where she continued doing hair and met her husband.

On November 23, 1958, Linda married Donald Utley in Phoenix, AZ.  The couple later moved to Minneapolis for a short time before moving to Chicago, IL.  Linda started a 20-year career working at Western Bell Telephone Company.  After her retirement, the couple moved to Garfield in 1988.  Donald died on September 11, 2009.

Linda enjoyed doing crafts with Donald that they would sell at craft fairs.  They also enjoyed RV camping.  Linda was a very good card player and enjoyed playing cards with the New Horizon’s widow and widowers, at the Garfield Senior Center and playing with family and friends.  She also loved her dogs especially her latest dog, Tina.

Linda died on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Alex Assisted Living at the age of 84.  She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Marlys (Howard) Gease, Roger (LuAnn) Klug, Kevin (Connie) Klug, Terry (Michael) Diedrich, Mark (Rose) Nack, Tim Nack, Gaylord (Caryl) Nack, Lori (Dean) Kluver, Julie (Randy) Valez,  Keith (Linda) Nack and Audrey Nack; niece-in-law, Kathy Klug; sisters-in-law, Billie Nack and Denise Higgins; brother-in-law, Robert (Ann) Utley, many great nieces and nephews, and cousins.  Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sophia; husband, Donald; brothers, Emil (Elaine) and Harold Nack; sister, Mabel (Reinhold) Klug; and nephew, Kenneth Klug.

A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Garfield.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
