Neal Johanson

b. June 27, 1931

Neal Henning Johanson was born June 27, 1931 in Moe Township, the son of Isadore and Selma (Christopherson) Johanson. He was raised at Holmes City, MN where he attended school. He also attended High school in Alexandria before joining the US Navy. Neal served during the Korean War aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer. Following his discharge he returned to Alexandria and began working for the Osborne & McMillan Feed Co. Later the company was bought by Hubbard feeds and Neal continued on with Hubbard until his retirement in 1993. On July 2, 1955 Neal was united in marriage to Gaynor Jones at United Methodist Church in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Alexandria where they were blessed with three children, Cindy, Scott and Lori. Neal was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936. Neal loved the out of doors. He enjoyed taking his family camping. He liked to go snowmobiling and doing his yard work. Neal loved spending time with his family. He never missed his children?s, or grandchildren?s sporting events. Last summer he was able to follow his grandson, Jason, around the golf course as he played in the Resorter?s Tournament. Neal was very proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. On Sunday, October 31, 2010 Neal died at the age of seventy-nine years. His parents, and two brothers, Marvin and Ned Johanson, preceded him in death. Neal is survived by his wife, Gaynor Johanson of Alexandria; daughters, Cindy Hjelm and husband, James, of Kensington, MN and Lori Johanson-Olson of Alexandria and her friend, Mick Condon of Plymouth, MN; one son, Scott Johanson and wife, Judy, of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Jason Johanson and wife, Kimberly, Jackie Johanson, Katie Johanson, Blake Olson and Bryce Olson; two brothers, Dean Johanson and wife, Fayelou, of Beverly Hills, FL and Frankie Johanson of Holmes City; one sister, Marlene Rupert and husband, Jim, of Holmes City; and one son-in-law, Calvin Olson of Kensington. A funeral service was held Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Anderson Funeral; Home in Alexandria. Reverend Denise Croskey was the officiant. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Holmes City. Honorary pallbearers included all of Neal?s grandchildren. Arrangements were with Anderson Funeral Home.
