Nona Erickson

March 4, 1935 — October 28, 2017

Nona Gene (Davies) Erickson was born March 4, 1935, in Fosston, MN, the daughter of Clyde and Leila Davies.  After a short time in North Dakota, the family moved to Thief River Falls, MN.  Nona graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1953.  Following her graduation, she also attended Trinity Bible College in Chicago.

On September 3, 1955, Nona was united in marriage to Charles (Chuck) Erickson at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN.  The couple made their home in Thief River Falls, and for a short time, in Benson, MN.  They were blessed with two sons and two daughters, Timothy, Steven, Mary, and Marsha.  Nona was a stay at home mother while raising her young children but was also busy working between and after  as a secretary/receptionist, designing and selling advertising, working overtime in the health food store she & Chuck owned, and other part time jobs where she was needed.  In 1980, Nona went to work for Bergan Travel in Thief River.  In 1990, the couple moved to Alexandria when Nona became manager of Alex Travel.  Nona worked in travel until a stroke, in July of 2007, forced her to retire.

Nona was a member of the Red Hat Ladies.  She loved music, singing in duets, trios, and choir.  She especially loved singing with Chuck in church and at special events (including funerals). Nona also loved sewing, decorating, entertaining and traveling for both business and pleasure.

Nona loved and served the Lord faithfully. She was very active at her church both in Thief River Falls and Alexandria.  Nona was a lady of many talents, teaching Sunday School, Bible School, actively serving on boards and committees in her Church, District Women’s Ministries, Mission Committees, Christian Women, and Bluewater Bible Camp,

Nona was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She set a strong example for her family and friends.  Nona had an unbelievable work ethic, great attitude and greater smile. Nona needed care after her stroke in 2007, which Chuck lovingly provided until April of 2012, when Nona moved into Knute Nelson due to complications from Alzheimer’s. As any visitor or Knute Nelson staff member will tell you, Nona always maintained her good spirits and smile.

Nona passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at Knute Nelson at the age of 82.  She is survived by her husband, Chuck of Alexandria; son, Timothy (Veronica) Erickson of Thief River Falls and Steven (Deborah) Erickson of Palm Coast, FL; daughters, Mary (Ronald) Lundberg of New Hope, MN and Marsha (Daniel) Lofgren of Woodland Park, CO; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; sister, Nora Reta Starkey of Deltona, FL; brothers, Roger (Betty) Davies of Cambridge, MN;  Keith Davies of Long Lake, MN and Birdell (Dodie) Davies of Neenah, WI; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Nona is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Leila Davies; brother, Lance Davies; brother-in-law, Paul Starkey; sister-in-law, Judy Davies; and nephew, Johnny Davies.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 AM on Friday, November 3, 2017, at Alexandria Covenant Church in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM with a Time Of Sharing at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home.
