Norman Owen Forkrud was born on September 15, 1927 in Sacred Heart Township, Renville County, MN to Jesse and Alma (Hanson) Forkrud. He was baptized and confirmed in Opdal Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. He attended country school District 15 North. Norm worked for different farmers before servicing the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Enestvedt Brothers Seed Company for 17 years. Norman was united in marriage to Mavis Martinson on October 3, 1959 in The Little Brown Church In The Vale, Nashua, IA. To this union the couple was blessed with 3 children, Michael, Rhonda and Shelly. In March of 1965 they moved to the farm 3 miles west of Clara City, MN. Norm retired from farming in 1989. He continued to help his son, Mike, plant and harvest his crop, until moving to Alexandria, MN in July of 2003. Norm is a member of the Clara City Legion, MCP, Calvary Lutheran Church, and MN Corn Growers. Norm enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing trips, spending time at the lake with his family and playing cards. Norman died on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at his home at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife, Mavis Forkrud of Alexandria; son, Michael (Connie Bode) Forkrud of Clara City; daughters, Rhonda Forkrud and Shelly Forkrud both of Golden Valley; brother, Gerald (Dorothy) Forkrud of Bloomington; sisters, Viola Grafenstein of Willmar, Ione ?Sis? (Johannes) Enestvedt of Renville, Beverly (Jim) Ryan of Farmington; sister-in-law, Audrey Forkrud; and many nieces and nephews. Norman is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Alma; brothers, James, Donald ?Bud?; sister, Leona ?Suse?. A funeral service was held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Mark Astrup officiating. Music was provided by organist, Kirk Landman and soloist, Reynold Hansen. Military Honors were provided by Alexandria American Legion Post 87, VFW Post 936, and Minnesota National Guard Honors. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casketbearers were Darrell Forkrud, Dave Forkrud, Darwin Forkrud, Chad Forkrud, Glen Zimmermann, and Roger Enestvedt. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
